Madison complimented Nathan on his coloring yesterday and he said, " I am a expert shoe colorer." Expert is his new word. Three and so very funny! The kid is a hoot.

Alexandra is turning 5, all she wants is a coloring book. I love my little artist.

Alexandra picked out a black bathing suit with peace signs on it. They were on sale $6.49 and $4.69, so I go some for next summer. Funny thing is that I went into Target to look at winter jackets and ended up with bathing suits? We covered the pool for the winter almost two weeks ago! Anyway.... Madison said, "she doesn't even know what that means." I said, "Do you?" She said, "Yes, Hollywood." Miss smarty pants!

Mark had a conversation with a friend the other day that told him his eye center that he goes to is hiring a retinal surgeon at $700,000 a year. Later than day in the van Mark as serious as could be said something along the lines of "listen up kids, one of you has to be a retinal surgeon. You all can discuss it and decided, but mommy and daddy need someone to pay for our retirement." Nathan said, "Can I say doodie head?". Mark said, " You can say it all you want if you are a surgeon."

House still is not fixed from the storm on July 31st. As soon as we decided to go ahead and do the roof and deal with the insurance later is started to rain and has rained almost everyday for over a week. Bottom line is it has to get fixed.

We have only hung one thing on the walls from the other house. I have a vertical stack of pictures and wall decor that has yet to be hung. Just not sure where to put some stuff and God forbid I put it somewhere and don't like it. One reason is the family room is paneling and I just refuse to hand anything until we drywall. Which will end up being 2015 at this rate. The Laundry room still isn't done completely.

All are welcome to come and have a working vacation to help us. I am not joking! Wish we were Amish this house would be DONE! Have a barn raising weekend. Or laundry room raising, kitchen remodel, deck raising would be the best, or foyer redo. I could go on but shouldn't it is depressing to think how much we want to do and how long it is going to take. When it is all done this house will be just the way we like.

So thankful for the friend that mails us kids clothes. She really has no idea what a blessing it is to hardly have to buy clothes for the man child.

Kids are totally into Scooby Doo and both girls want to be Velma for Halloween. Velma?

As hard as I try to remember kids birthdays and write them all on my ical for the life of me I never look at the ical and always see it too late.

Thunderstorms sound different here. Not sure if it is the mountains that divide up the city or they just aren't has severe here. Yes we have mountains and they are beautiful. They aren't white capped and huge, but the landscape here is gorgeous. Mountains run along the east of the city and we live about three blocks from the land trust. We call it our mountain. That is how the kids know we are almost home. There is more than one mountain, but they line up along the whole east side of the city and I can't tell where one starts and the other ends.

Top 10 Things I Don't Miss About Facebook

It has been 24 days since I changed my password and logged off Facebook. I have logged on twice to see if anyone messaged me and logged back off. Which I am glad that I did because someone messaged me about math tutoring. The only thing I missed was if someone had had their baby. I was interested to know and while I tried so hard to stay off Facebook I did search her name just to see if she had the baby. Then I thought if she did have the baby and I don't know then are we really friends?   We are not friends by the true definition, just virtual Facebook friends. Top 10 Things I Don't Miss About Facebook 1. Selling of Rodan & Fields, LuLaRue, 31, Ketones or Scentsy.  I like some of these products and support you 100% and hope you do well.  The multiple posts on your product daily but nothing else in your life, blah. 2. Bragging. I love to see pictures of your vacation, if it isn't the only time you are on Facebook. 3. Posting fake news. 4. Making a comment I ...

One Word Can Actually Make a Difference

I choose not to work. I do understand that people don't have a choice and have to work outside of the home for a pay check to buy food and shelter.  One parent in my house must work. I also feel some don't really have to work and choose to work for luxury items.  I have talked to people that say there is no way they could be a stay at home parent and choose to go to work. Why do we as parents belittle each other in our choices.  Recently on Facebook (some say a necessary evil, but I think it is just evil) A parent commented   "...for the parent that actually works".  Wow, only one word makes that sentence sting.  I try not to let these words on Facebook hurt me or give them a second thought but I am a wordy person and I think about words.  The sentence takes a different tone if it was written, "for the parent that works".  The word "actually" implies negative things to those that don't work. For the parent that works I understand that a 30 ...

180 Days

Oh sweet summertime, you are missed already.  One of my kids said that the school year is the beginning of a 180 day sentence.  Makes a mother with a teaching degree sad.  I love learning. I don't love the system of education and why I am not a classroom teacher anymore but I understand some of her complaints. I am the mother of a freshman in high school. At a brand new school. No one went to school there ever until a couple of weeks ago.  I told her the first couple weeks could be hard. The plus to being a freshman in a new school is that it is new to everyone. I knew that even though the building cost 75 million to build that things were not going to be ideal.  Boy was I right, I don't always like being right. Some things are a mess.  Some things are getting better each day.  There are things I can not understand and probably will never understand.  Even as a parent that has been a classroom teacher with two degrees in education I can't make...
