Oct 31st

This weekend was over in a speed of light. Mark's friend Cary came to town which is nice to just catch up and talk with someone especially when they are "stuck" with you for days. It is great when people come to visit because it doesn't have to end in minutes or hours. Days of chit chat. Just the fact Mark had a guy to watch baseball with was wonderful. I like baseball, but most women just don't retain sports facts like men.

Nathan and "That Dude"

Halloween was fun. COLD, but fun. I think it was 47 degrees by the time we finished and got in the house. We only went a couple blocks. Nathan is still just three and I am shocked that he walked the entire time. He got Halloween this year and understands now what it is all about ~ CANDY! The boy asks for candy as soon as he wakes up. Funny thing is Sunday I said you can have candy after lunch. At 8 am he said to me "Can I have lunch?" Cute, but NO!

Alex and Madison wanted to be Velma for Halloween which is cute but $35 times two? I don't thinks so. After our unemployment last year I have a new perspective on spending money on things. Normally I would spend $25 each kid. I could go on with that topic, but back to Halloween. Madison was the easy convert I presented my case and she was fine and already had a back up plan. Alex on the other hand held out until Thursday when she finally decided that she would be a hippie. She only picked the costume out of desperation and seeing she only had a few days left finally gave up on Velma. She picked out this costume for two reasons. One it is green (her favorite color) and second it had butterflies on it. The costume actually fits her personality. Nathan wanted to be an Army guy. Easy enough he already had all the camo. I spent about $25 total.

It is kinda our tradition to do pumpkin carving on Halloween. Our kids are too young to carve so I let them pick a face and Mark and I carve. Thankful Cary was here to do the third pumpkin. The kids cleaned them out and the adults carved. It always takes longer than I think. Top one is Maddie's pick, second is Nathan's pick and the meanest one is Alexandra's pick. Cary did Maddie's, Mark did Nathan's (the hardest and longest to carve) and I did Alexandra's.

Alex's costume is awesome! She looks great and the pumpkins...WOW!!! Sounds like you had a great Halloween and even though it was cold, you have to admit it's better than the sweat and humidity here on Halloween!

Top 10 Things I Don't Miss About Facebook

It has been 24 days since I changed my password and logged off Facebook. I have logged on twice to see if anyone messaged me and logged back off. Which I am glad that I did because someone messaged me about math tutoring. The only thing I missed was if someone had had their baby. I was interested to know and while I tried so hard to stay off Facebook I did search her name just to see if she had the baby. Then I thought if she did have the baby and I don't know then are we really friends?   We are not friends by the true definition, just virtual Facebook friends. Top 10 Things I Don't Miss About Facebook 1. Selling of Rodan & Fields, LuLaRue, 31, Ketones or Scentsy.  I like some of these products and support you 100% and hope you do well.  The multiple posts on your product daily but nothing else in your life, blah. 2. Bragging. I love to see pictures of your vacation, if it isn't the only time you are on Facebook. 3. Posting fake news. 4. Making a comment I ...

One Word Can Actually Make a Difference

I choose not to work. I do understand that people don't have a choice and have to work outside of the home for a pay check to buy food and shelter.  One parent in my house must work. I also feel some don't really have to work and choose to work for luxury items.  I have talked to people that say there is no way they could be a stay at home parent and choose to go to work. Why do we as parents belittle each other in our choices.  Recently on Facebook (some say a necessary evil, but I think it is just evil) A parent commented   "...for the parent that actually works".  Wow, only one word makes that sentence sting.  I try not to let these words on Facebook hurt me or give them a second thought but I am a wordy person and I think about words.  The sentence takes a different tone if it was written, "for the parent that works".  The word "actually" implies negative things to those that don't work. For the parent that works I understand that a 30 ...

180 Days

Oh sweet summertime, you are missed already.  One of my kids said that the school year is the beginning of a 180 day sentence.  Makes a mother with a teaching degree sad.  I love learning. I don't love the system of education and why I am not a classroom teacher anymore but I understand some of her complaints. I am the mother of a freshman in high school. At a brand new school. No one went to school there ever until a couple of weeks ago.  I told her the first couple weeks could be hard. The plus to being a freshman in a new school is that it is new to everyone. I knew that even though the building cost 75 million to build that things were not going to be ideal.  Boy was I right, I don't always like being right. Some things are a mess.  Some things are getting better each day.  There are things I can not understand and probably will never understand.  Even as a parent that has been a classroom teacher with two degrees in education I can't make...
