Shankapotomus

I live on a golf course, the sixth hole to be specific. I don't say this to be hoity toity. Just stating a fact in order to tell my story. The golf course is a country club ~ members only (which I am not a member). I have to say that I see a lot of funny stuff just looking out my window or being in the backyard. So let me take this time to just list some of the things I have seen and my take on it all. Here is a picture for reference if needed. Dogwood to the left, 6th hole center and the water hazard. Yes, we have had balls in the pool. Kinda scary and I try not to worry about that.

1. A golf cart that looks like a Rolls Royce in fact does NOT make you a good golfer. This man golfs what seems to be every Thursday and he is well.... a shankapotomus. The only reason why I know him is because of his cart and the fact in is in my neighbors backyard a lot. Oh and he drives like a maniac in his silver Rolls.

2. If you are in my backyard or your ball is in my backyard you should take up a different sport. I don't play golf but know enough to say if you are yards away form the green and in my backyard you are pretty bad.

3. One day this guy was under my dogwood in the backyard I just happened to stop and watch him, I mean he was in my backyard. He hit the ball and it went right over his head and landed behind him. Right behind him. I wish I would have had the video camera running.

4. Yes, people can see you pee in the bushes even if no one is outside. One day I was doing the dishes at the sink with a window. Can't help to look out at the view. It is one of the reasons we love this house. There was a guy out there looking around like he was lost. Then he started to relieve himself in the bushes! Nice "members only" club!

5. My pool is not considered a water hazard.

6. If you hear something in the trees making lots of noise, DUCK! There is a shankapotomus on the lose.

7. Shocking, but people can hear your conversations if you are golfing outside. OYE VE!

8. The golfers that walk vs the golfers that drive their fancy carts. What catches my eye is the group of people that have both walkers and drivers. Well they all have drivers, little golf humor. Anyway, does the golfer in the cart drive ahead and wait. Just doesn't make since to me.

9. Sneaking on the golf course at night to practice is not unnoticed by all.

10. How many is too many in terms of other players. I can understand the one guy just wants to get some quiet time, two players seems ideal, four is fun and more for conversation than golf, but five and six at the hole at the same time is well, crowded.

11. Eagles are fun. Saw a group of four ladies one day jumping up and down yelling having a little eagle dance. Madison took notice and started to ask questions. You have to be pretty loud for Madison to pay attention.

12. Do you let them know where their ball is or just keep quiet? I'm not sure. Some days we are out back and I have seen the ball land in the backyard, but you don't want to be like, "Hey Shankapotomus! your ball is over here."

13. One day I will have to apologize for Nathan yelling out ~ SHANKAPOTOMUS!

"Normal"

Psalms 62:8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge . This past year has been something else to say the least. From October to October, okay not quite a year but WOWSER! Didn't see that freight train coming. I have to reflect. I have been reading my blog entries going back to October of last year. Part of me can believe it has been a year since all this started and part of me feel like it was forever ago. Daily I have to turn my cares over to the Lord, carry my cross and trust with a faith that can move mountains. Recap~ October 2008 ~ The company Mark is contracting for is a pool company and is really feeling the effects of the economy and crisis and has to cut back. Mark was not the first to go but his time is up the first week of October. November 2008 ~ hint of a job in Raleigh NC. The person hiring has to wait until January to see if they get a contract or not. Very surprised at the lack of jobs in the Tampa area...

NaNoWriMo & Peeps

peeps pēps/ noun  informal people (often used to refer to a person's friends or associates). "thanks for the feedback, peeps!" If you choose to do NaNoWriMo you have got to explain to the ones you love and cherish what you are doing in November. The more warnings the better. I told my husband a year before I started NaNoWriMo that I wanted to   do a month writing challange and explained the details. I didn’t talk about it all year but once October came around I started to talk more about NaNoWriMo. I talked about it so much my second year that my kids wanted to do NaNoWriMo too.   It was fun to do some writing prep with my kids.   My oldest has already set a goal for this year.  If you have kids you should check out the  Young Writers Program .  They can set word goals. I like encouraging my kids to write with me. It might even help me justify writing on Saturday and Sunday when I have a kid or two a...

2 AM Musings

I have been wide awake since before 2 AM. Wide eyed and well, not so bushy tailed. This is the second day in a row. Why?  No really, why? This is the second day in a row my brain refuses to turn off for longer than a few hours. It's like half my brain wants to party and the logical side knows this is not a good thing.    As a mom of three on the first day of a new school year I am sitting in the family room in the dark thinking of all the things I can't do right now. I am also lamenting summer. Today summer break officially ends. At least I am up in time to get the kids to school.   I am not excited for today. It has a few milestones that we can not put off. I will not drive to the elementary school for the first time in eight years. I will be dropping my youngest off at middle school and my oldest at the high school. Also the middle child decided to go back to school so I will not be homeschooling this year.   In a few hours my kids will wake up and ...
