Christmas Cards

All I have to say is that making Christmas cards was the must ridiculous idea I have ever had. It has sent me to many stores and it costs 10 x's less to do photo cards.  I have a cute idea but to do fifty or more of them is NUTS!

My genius idea started because of all the scrap supplies I have.  I thought it would cost less than photo cards.  I decided to do cards to fit in an A6 size envelope.  Michael's sells them 10 for 4.99.  I need at least 50.  I thought surely I can get them at Office Depot or Walmart for less in a 50 count box.   I started to make my cards without envelopes.  Number one mistake.  40 started and no envelopes to be found in this city other than Joann's and Michael's.  I got online to shop and envelopes will cost me at least $20 to buy and ship to my house.  Sam's sells 50 photo cards with envelopes for 14.50.  That math problem was easy.

I didn't give up hope until today when I sat down at the Circut I borrowed from my friend to do tags. The though of finishing them is just to overwhelming and I am done!  I have been to Joann's, Micheal's, Office Depot, Staples, the Dollar Tree (wishful thinking) back to Joann's and I sent Mark to Target.  I got online at Target.com and they wanted over $9 for shipping for 50 A6 envelopes that only cost $10.  How in the world does it cost $9 to ship ENVELOPES!  I was hopeful and sent Mark to see if he could find them in the store.  NOPE!  I really, really, really wanted to do this but it seems to be too expensive to even finish.  My total cost is about $5 for circut mats I bought but I can use them for scrapbooking.

As of this moment I hope you all enjoy your photo cards this year.   Maybe when I get over my travels today I will start again with a different idea.

Welcome to my world. I spend anywhere from $50-$75 a year on Christmas cards. I'm laughing as I'm reading but it's because I totally understand:)

Low Expectations

Mark and I took the kids a couple of years ago to Orlando for a weekend.  Nathan was less than a year old, Alexandra must have just turned 2 and Madison was 4.  I look back and laugh but at the time it was anything but funny.  A trip to Disney would be fun and relaxing right?  HA!  We never even made it to Disney because Madison was so ornery the day we were going to go I couldn't justify going.  We learned a lot about being parents of three young kids that weekend.   During our stay we took the kids to the Rainforest Cafe.  Nathan was terrified the whole meal and after our $75 lunch Madison threw up all over the table and floor.  That is when Mark made the rule we don't take the kids to a restaurant unless it has a drive thru, curbside doesn't count.  We really do stick to that rule and the only sit down "nice" restaurant we go to with the kids is Sonny's BBQ.  Before we left I wanted to get the kids a little something from the Disney Marketplace.  I took the...

Intentional Spending

I first want to say I am not cheap!  I don't buy the cheapest item just because I want to save money.  I do like finding a good deal on things that are high quality.  I don't like sacrificing quality for price.  I try to never pay full price for anything.   When I say our spending it intentional what I mean is that Mark and I sit down around November and hash out the budget.  Some things are constants in the budget.  Mortgage, phone, insurance pretty much stay the same.  Some vary like gas, water, electric.  After years of budgeting we can average out what we spent the year before and add if needed to the new budget.   Here is what we do know we have to pay something first so they go in the budget first.  Then what is "leftover" is up for dividing.  This is not a fool proof plan. Medical never gets budgeted enough money.  Which is why you should have a savings account.  Every category gets a set amount of money tha...

Happy New Year!

Happy Anniversary to my parents that got married today many moons ago. Congratulations for over 30 years of marital bliss.   Updates... I know why you should have a realtor.  Too many emotions.  The people that looked out our house put it in their top 3 choices and today they go back to their other 2 choices.  We will see what happens.  I feel a low offer coming our way, if we get an offer at all.     Do you know how much work it is to keep a house walk thru ready?  I feel like we worked all day to get out for an hour and then we came home and trashed the place.     Tomungus, Nathan's new word.  What it means I'm not quite sure, but he thinks it is funny.  He says humongous and ginormous a lot so I think he just said one wrong.   The veggie garden is growing wild. We have tiny tomatoes, squash, zucchini and broccoli. I kinda hope we can get some veggie before we move.  If not I will have to start another garden the kids love it and it keeps them busy watering it.  Playing in  w...
