It's Not Easy Being Green

I don't have my own grocery bags.  My car is not eco-friendly, but paid for.  The cost of a hybrid just doesn't make financial sense.  It is trendy to be green, but I feel like it should be more trendy to be financial smart.  I'm on my soapbox,  give me a minute to get off.

Okay, back to green.  I did buy a paperless bible for my ipod touch.  My church is now going green by emailing the weekly bulletin and I signed up.  I can finally see the end of paper that they swore would happen with the invention of the home computer.  Paper is my green issue. Paper isn't all that bad is it?

I do question the amount of paper a kindergarten class uses daily.  I have quite a pile accumulating in the corner of the office.  I saw a segment on PBS the other week about a local school that "went green".  Very good ideas.  They used so much less energy than the other schools in the district the superintendent took notice.  The teacher that started the school on the green journey has ALL homework emailed. How green is that!  Zero paper.

So, why I am writing this.  As a traditional scrapbooker going through all her PAPER.   I find it very, very, very hard to be green.  I have way more 12 x 12 paper than I will use in all my current albums.  I have a forest of paper,  a very large forest.   I am trying to be eco-friendly and I am obviously conscience of how NON eco-friendly my hobby is at the moment.  I love paper! It isn't easy being green, Kermit was right.

Everything in moderation. It's all a wash in the end. I use purchased grocery bags and we recycle here (which I love) but that is as far as I go for now:) What's scrappin' w/o good paper?

Low Expectations

Mark and I took the kids a couple of years ago to Orlando for a weekend.  Nathan was less than a year old, Alexandra must have just turned 2 and Madison was 4.  I look back and laugh but at the time it was anything but funny.  A trip to Disney would be fun and relaxing right?  HA!  We never even made it to Disney because Madison was so ornery the day we were going to go I couldn't justify going.  We learned a lot about being parents of three young kids that weekend.   During our stay we took the kids to the Rainforest Cafe.  Nathan was terrified the whole meal and after our $75 lunch Madison threw up all over the table and floor.  That is when Mark made the rule we don't take the kids to a restaurant unless it has a drive thru, curbside doesn't count.  We really do stick to that rule and the only sit down "nice" restaurant we go to with the kids is Sonny's BBQ.  Before we left I wanted to get the kids a little something from the Disney Marketplace.  I took the...

Happy New Year!

Happy Anniversary to my parents that got married today many moons ago. Congratulations for over 30 years of marital bliss.   Updates... I know why you should have a realtor.  Too many emotions.  The people that looked out our house put it in their top 3 choices and today they go back to their other 2 choices.  We will see what happens.  I feel a low offer coming our way, if we get an offer at all.     Do you know how much work it is to keep a house walk thru ready?  I feel like we worked all day to get out for an hour and then we came home and trashed the place.     Tomungus, Nathan's new word.  What it means I'm not quite sure, but he thinks it is funny.  He says humongous and ginormous a lot so I think he just said one wrong.   The veggie garden is growing wild. We have tiny tomatoes, squash, zucchini and broccoli. I kinda hope we can get some veggie before we move.  If not I will have to start another garden the kids love it and it keeps them busy watering it.  Playing in  w...

True Friends

I am on Facebook daily and love flair.  I had a local friend send me flair that said , " True friendship isn't being inseparable. It's being separated and nothing changes."  I'm hoping that once I leave this area I have many friends that are true friends.  This post is an ode to such a friend.  One friend of mine moved away many years ago and I realized the other night that she is that just that friend.  It doesn't matter if time or many miles separates us she is a true friend.  I realized after a long conversation on the phone with that person (her mostly listening) that I have a gem of a friend and I am so grateful for her.  I just wanted to send out a shout to that person, you know who you are and let you know I think your the best!   Maybe one day God will let us live in the same city.   It is funny as you get um... well.... older you start to have friends all over the country.  I do have many friends all over the place and each of you are special to me.  ...
