Awe, Innocents and Joy

We had a great time at Sea World this weekend.  I am very tired.  That is a measure for me on how much fun we had.  I didn't take a lot of pictures.  I wanted to enjoy my family and create memories not pictures.  I got to witness awe, innocents and pure joy.  Maddie made me take this picture before we left the park Saturday.  It was that time of day when you just want to go take a shower and crawl in the resort bed and take a nap.  I really didn't want to take it because we had to put down all the stuff we accumulated during the day in the rented double wide stroller with a double wide bag.   The little things you don't think about during the day.   Shamu lunch boxes, shamu cups times 6, three candy bags from trick or treating Sea World style, cameras, etc.  Anyway, it is cute (minus the very tired and needy Nathan).  Poor guy was a trooper.  

Nathan woke up Friday with a horrible cough.  He was sick for the week before with just a runny nose.  No other symptoms.  By the end of the week, the day we are leaving he starts with a horrible croup like cough. So a visit to the Dr and a couple of medications later we are off to Sea World.  I don't think he was up to the marathon weekend.  

Friday night we went to the Shamu show to get the party started right.  It wasn't until early this morning over 24 hours later that Nathan started to do the Shamu chant with the little dance. Shamu, Shamu, Shamu!  He was in awe of the creatures God has made. Complete awe!  I love just watching kids see things for the first time. The jaw dropping awe of nature.  Nathan went on the penguin encounter three times. Not for the penguins, but for the people mover.  
Then there was the scuba diver.  Yes, my son could have stayed at the manatee exhibit all day. They were cleaning the manatee area and Nathan could careless about the manatee.  He stood there for so long that my parents, Mark and the girls left without us.  Then for the rest of the day asked to see the scuba diver.  

So when kids aren't in awe they comment on things they know nothing about.  Madison had people in stitches as I tried to gather up my children and leave because they got to witness dolphins mating. Nature at it unpredictable finest. Madison said as loud as she could in the echo cave aka underwater viewing area "Look they are dancing" as giggles erupted from the small underwater viewing area.  She changed her mind and said out loud they were shaking tales.   Yeah, okay next underwater viewing area PLEASE!  

Alexandra is a tough little cookie.  She is very shy and reserved most of the time.  Get the girl on a ride and her whole demeanor changes. I don't think I have ever seen the girl laugh so much in one sitting. She loved this ride in the Shamu Harbor.  We got to face each other on the ride and I am so glad she sat with my dad.  I laughed so hard because of her reaction to the ride I was in tears. She was so happy she started to scream with joy.  Which of course made everyone else laugh and giggle.

Low Expectations

Mark and I took the kids a couple of years ago to Orlando for a weekend.  Nathan was less than a year old, Alexandra must have just turned 2 and Madison was 4.  I look back and laugh but at the time it was anything but funny.  A trip to Disney would be fun and relaxing right?  HA!  We never even made it to Disney because Madison was so ornery the day we were going to go I couldn't justify going.  We learned a lot about being parents of three young kids that weekend.   During our stay we took the kids to the Rainforest Cafe.  Nathan was terrified the whole meal and after our $75 lunch Madison threw up all over the table and floor.  That is when Mark made the rule we don't take the kids to a restaurant unless it has a drive thru, curbside doesn't count.  We really do stick to that rule and the only sit down "nice" restaurant we go to with the kids is Sonny's BBQ.  Before we left I wanted to get the kids a little something from the Disney Marketplace.  I took the...

2 AM Musings

I have been wide awake since before 2 AM. Wide eyed and well, not so bushy tailed. This is the second day in a row. Why?  No really, why? This is the second day in a row my brain refuses to turn off for longer than a few hours. It's like half my brain wants to party and the logical side knows this is not a good thing.    As a mom of three on the first day of a new school year I am sitting in the family room in the dark thinking of all the things I can't do right now. I am also lamenting summer. Today summer break officially ends. At least I am up in time to get the kids to school.   I am not excited for today. It has a few milestones that we can not put off. I will not drive to the elementary school for the first time in eight years. I will be dropping my youngest off at middle school and my oldest at the high school. Happy New Year!

Happy Anniversary to my parents that got married today many moons ago. Congratulations for over 30 years of marital bliss.   Updates... I know why you should have a realtor.  Too many emotions.  The people that looked out our house put it in their top 3 choices and today they go back to their other 2 choices.  We will see what happens.  I feel a low offer coming our way, if we get an offer at all.     Do you know how much work it is to keep a house walk thru ready?  I feel like we worked all day to get out for an hour and then we came home and trashed the place.     Tomungus, Nathan's new word.  What it means I'm not quite sure, but he thinks it is funny.  He says humongous and ginormous a lot so I think he just said one wrong.   The veggie garden is growing wild. We have tiny tomatoes, squash, zucchini and broccoli.
